The most recognized certificate for healthcare simulation educators is Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). CHSE-A is an advanced version of CHSE and is a portfolio-based certification for leaders in healthcare simulation. Taking International Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Simulation Education Program or other certificate/training programs can be helpful to prepare for the CHSE examination although these are not required. The SSH also offers Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS); however, passing the CHSOS examination seems to be so difficult since it requires knowledge from many different areas.
Simulation Educator Training Programs
There are various professional development opportunities for healthcare simulation educators. Conferences, symposiums, workshops, webinars, etc. can be found at the Simuloud Events calendar page.
Simulation Operation Specialist Training Programs
Healthcare simulation technologies cover a very wide range of specialties such as audio/visual, computer/internet technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, moulage/theater arts, information security, etc. A Simulation Operation Specialist (sometimes called Simulation Technician) is defined by the SSH as “an individual whose primary role is the implementation and delivery of a simulation activity through the application of simulation technologies such as, computers, audio-visual, or networking technologies.” There are multiple training programs for the Simulation Operation Specialist/Technician as shown in the following table.
